Gone For The Weekend is perhaps the most summery and danceable track Claybrook has released thus far. A celebration of introversion and the need for solitude. Musically, the intro is built on a 3 against 5 polyrhythm. The track is anchored by Claybrook's signature acoustic guitar style and drums by Dale Baker, tracked live together in the studio. Eliot Krimsky, a Brooklyn based film composer, added layers of Prophet synthesizer, immediately taking the song in a hazy, dreamy direction. Finally, Anne Claire Niver took the dreamy quality farther with her buttery backing vocals. It's the soundtrack for driving away on a weekend getaway, parking the car, and continuing on foot.
lyrics
Gone for the weekend, feeling free
Gone for the weekend, breathing easy
Together is good, apart is bittersweet
Gone for the weekend, never mind me
Now you see me, now you don't
It's child's play but it's not a joke
It translates poorly through the phone
I get so lonely when I'm never alone
Gone for the weekend, feeling free
Gone for the weekend, breathing easy
Together is good, apart is bittersweet
Gone for the weekend, never mind me
Destination anywhere
Long as it gets me out of your hair
Take a hike, hop a plane
Just get me out before I go insane
But babe, when I'm gone I'll still be near
Can you hear Thay say
Form is emptiness, my dear
Gone for the weekend, feeling free
Gone for the weekend, breathing easy
Together is good, apart is bittersweet
Gone for the weekend, never mind me
I'm not proud, no I wish it wasn't true
But sometimes it seems I need to miss you
